HSGQ X100 XPON ONU – Connect Fiber Internet to Your Existing Wi-Fi Router

You don't always need a new Wi-Fi router when setting up a fiber internet connection. Sometimes, all you need is the right device between your ISP's fiber cable and the router you already own.

The HSGQ X100 XPON ONU is a compact, single-port fiber terminal built for that purpose. It receives the optical connection from a compatible GPON or EPON network and provides a Gigabit Ethernet output for your router. Whether you're arranging a new broadband installation or replacing an existing ONU, the HSGQ X100 offers a straightforward solution without adding unnecessary wireless hardware.

A Simple Connection Between Fiber and Ethernet

A typical home installation needs only one wired connection from the ONU to the router. That's where the HSGQ X100's 10/100/1000Mbps RJ45 LAN port becomes useful.

The device supports adaptive GPON and EPON connectivity. GPON provides optical link rates of up to 2.5Gbps downstream and 1.25Gbps upstream, while EPON operates at 1.25Gbps in both directions. These are optical-side transmission rates; the Ethernet output remains limited to a maximum 1Gbps link speed.

For users upgrading from an older 100Mbps ONU, the Gigabit port is worth considering, particularly when the broadband package and router also support faster-than-100Mbps connections.

Before You Replace Your Existing ONU

Not every fiber terminal can be connected to an ISP network without configuration. Your provider may need to register the new ONU using its device identification and supported authentication method.

The HSGQ X100 supports GPON/EPON adaptive operation, but actual compatibility depends on the ISP's OLT, service configuration and optical connector. The listed version uses an SC/UPC optical interface, so the connector should be matched with the installed fiber cable.

For a home or small office with one router, this single-port arrangement is usually easier to manage than buying an ONU with several Ethernet outputs you may never use.

Built for Everyday Networking and Technician Access

Beyond converting optical signals to Ethernet, this HSGQ XPON ONU provides network management capabilities useful during installation and troubleshooting.

The published specifications include Web, Telnet, TR-069, OAM and OMCI management, along with support for bandwidth control, VLAN configuration and network filtering. Such features allow compatible operators and technicians to manage subscriber-side connectivity according to their network setup.

Status indicators for power, PON registration, optical signal and LAN connectivity help distinguish fiber registration problems from an ordinary Ethernet cable issue.

With a compact 105 × 85 × 25mm enclosure and power consumption below 3W, the unit is designed for low-power indoor operation. Its ventilation design helps dissipate heat without requiring a built-in cooling fan.

Where the HSGQ X100 Makes Sense

This device is particularly relevant when you already have a Wi-Fi router, need a dedicated Gigabit fiber terminal or want to replace an older ONU while keeping the rest of your network unchanged.

Remember that the HSGQ X100 does not create a Wi-Fi network by itself. It connects the fiber line to Ethernet; your separate router handles wireless coverage and connected devices.
